Ashok Rajagopalan, the illustrious illustrator of books for children, author of the Gajapati Kulapati series of books, has come out with his latest offering – Lemon Salt Soda – a humorous novel for adults, serialised online.
The story so far …
Babloo, or Baboonloo, a 30 something bachelor is imposed upon by his biggest sister, Meena to take his niece (Meena’s daughter) Paddy to the family astrologer, to have her horoscope matched with that of prospective grooms. Paddy confesses that she is in love with a person who would be the least likely match by Meena’s conventional standards. Paddy lays the responsibility of conveying this news to her mother at Babloo’s door. In an unconnected thread, we see Soda (short for Somasundaram), Babloo’s friend, confiding about his love for an office colleague to Babloo. Babloo seems to have his hands full …

- Ashok sir, as he popularly known in the writers’ circuit, says, “Art is something that moves you” and “A piece of art is a piece of communication.” He further goes on to say, “ … if we write a story that moves readers, moves them to tears, laughter or any emotional high, we have made it as writers“.
At the time of writing this, 3 chapters/instalments have been released. Going by the three chapters I can certainly say that Ashok sir has made it as a writer, for they most certainly moved me to laughter. I was erupting into giggles and laughter while reading through the 16 pages that are currently available.

- The book is a serialised novel available online. This is a new concept that I am coming across for the first time. The instalments (chapters), or books as they are referred to will be available every Saturday for those who register.
- Each book is accompanied by a book cover – a comic illustration by the master.
I strongly recommend this as a book worth reading. The [amazon text=free download of book 1: Company for Love &asin=B00TYGNYEK] (3 chapters), is available for another 5 days on Amazon. The kindle version of the remaining books are available for the price of $1.00 a piece on Amazon.
